Scheepvaartkwartier
On my bike. In Rotterdam. On exploration. This time in the Scheepvaartkwartier. I have been to this district quite sometimes. The neighbourhood is beautifully green and majestic and at the same time is next to the river Nieuwe Maas. The majestic atmosphere is due to the fact that the Scheepvaartkwartier remained practically intact during the bombing in 1940. The 19th-century mansions were not destroyed and therefore there are still 97 national monuments in this district. No other district in Rotterdam has so many.
Also, the Veerhaven has been captured several times on my iPhone camera. It is also referred to as one of the most beautiful and romantic places in Rotterdam. If you are still looking for a nice location for your bridal photos in Rotterdam – then you have to check out the Veerhaven. The digging of the harbour began in 1852, and two years later it was ready to accommodate ships. Since then, mainly sailing ships and other historical ships such as schooners and barges can be found there.
5 Minutes walking distance from the Veerhaven there is the park. The park at the Euromast is even called Het Park. It was designed in 1850 and many trees are over a hundred years old. There are also several Gardens such as a dark green botanical garden and a French-style garden. My visits were always devoted to recreation. One time I went for a walk, the other time I was there with Stefano to sunbathe and play rocket. As you could already read, The Park is next to the Euromast. The Euromast is the highest observation tower in the Netherlands with its 185 meters. It was built in 1960 on the occasion of the Floriade. Hopefully, it will open again soon so that we can go up and see Rotterdam from above. (As the featured of this post shows we succeeded in going up. As far as I’m concerned, a walk or bike ride through the Scheepvaartkwartier is a must when you’re in Rotterdam! It is so beautiful and there are coming together many beautiful sides of Rotterdam. At least I’ll go there a few more times for sure until we get back home.
Scheepvaartkwartier
Op mijn fiets. In Rotterdam. Op verkenning. Dit keer in het Scheepvaartkwartier. In deze wijk ben ik al vaker geweest. Ik vind het er zo mooi groen en majestatisch uitzien terwijl het tegelijk ook aan de Nieuwe Maas ligt. De majestatische sfeer komt doordat het Scheepvaartkwartier tijdens het bombardement in 1940 vrijwel ongeschonden bleef. De 19e eeuwse herenhuizen werden niet verwoest en daarom zijn er in deze wijk 97 rijksmonumenten te vinden. Geen andere wijk in Rotterdam heeft er zo veel.
De Veerhaven is al meerdere malen op mijn iPhone camera vastgelegd. Het wordt ook wel als een van de mooiste en romantische plekjes van Rotterdam benoemd. Ben je nog op zoek naar een leuke locatie voor je bruidsfoto’s in Rotterdam – dan moet je in de Veerhaven zijn. Het graven van de haven begon in 1852 en twee jaar later was hij klaar om schepen te herbergen. Sindsdien liggen er vooral zeilschepen en andere historische schepen zoals schoeners en barken.
Ook in het park van het Scheepvaartkwartier ben ik al een paar keer geweest. Het park bij de Euromast heet zelfs Het Park. Het is ontworpen in 1850 en veel bomen zijn meer dan honderd jaar oud. Ook zijn er verschillende Tuinen zoals een donkergroene heemtuin en een Franse stijltuin te vinden. Mijn bezoekjes stonden altijd in het teken van recreatie. De ene keer ben ik er gaan wandelen de andere keer was ik er met Stefano om te zonnen en raket te spelen. Zoals je al kon lezen ligt Het Park naast de Euromast. De Euromast is met 185 meter de hoogste uitkijktoren van Nederland. Hij werd in 1960 gebouwd ter gelegenheid van de Floriade. Hopelijk gaat hij snel weer open en kunnen we naar de top. (Zoals je kunt zien op de eerste foto zijn we inderdaad naar boven gegaan. Maar daarover meer op Zondag.)
Wat mij betreft is een wandeling of fietstochtje door het Scheepvaartkwartier een must als je in Rotterdam bent! Het is er zo mooi en komt er veel mooie kanten van Rotterdam tegen. Ik zal er in elk geval nog een paar komen tot dat we terug naar huis gaan.
